Magazine Design
Study Graphic Design First Year Magazine Design Project at uwtsd
The Basics:
Role:
Simon is studying to be a designer at uwtsd and was tasked with designing a brand new 18 page magazine for Gundam model work enthusiasts, complete with front and back covers.
Problem and Opportunity:
Simon had some experience in magazine design because it was his second time, but he encountered some problems in designing this piece in terms of how to create a visual hierarchy that made sense and how to manage the text.
However, during the production process, I got a lot of advice and inspiration from my tutor Gav, and I am glad that the final product was able to satisfy me.
Key Stakeholders and their Priorities:
It's a piece for fans of Gundam modelling so the primary concern is which style they prefer!
Who are the users/audience:
Gundam Model Fans
Research and Competitor Analysis:
Simon's competition was all the Gundam model magazines on the market, because this model type is very different from other models, Gundam is a sci-fi style body, but setting the whole magazine in sci-fi style would be too much the same as the competitors on the market, so Simon decided to try to design a minimalist Gundam model magazine from the perspective of graphic designers, based on the graphic designers' skills such as the visual layering aspect to make the effect.
The Process:
Plan
Plan for distributing the contents of an eighteen-page magazine

Visual Studies
Researching related styles, analysing strengths and weaknesses and then creating your own style

Experience
After the sketches, you start to study and test the typography and the position of the images, make adjustments and then put in the text message.

Finished work
Continuously researching and solving problems along the way until the final work is completed.

The Outcome:
Simon said it was a very enjoyable project exploring a lot of new knowledge about graphic design, and learning a lot of detailed skills in the process of designing, so as to go further and further down the road of graphic design.
